Hey! I'm Evan...

In January 2016, I walked into my first yoga class at the Yoga Room in Astoria, Queens. I had dabbled a bit in yoga before, but never fully committed. I knew I had wanted to engage in a regular yoga practice but I was scared.

I walked into a foundations level class and the only spot available was up front by the teacher. Previous to that moment I would have run for the door. I had already paid, I could leave whenever and this isn't how I wanted my "first class" to go. But this time a small, quiet voice in my head said, "Just stay."

I listened to that voice and resisted my impulse to bolt from the room. I got through my class, covered in sweat, and after our final resting pose felt that "yoga high." Five years later, as they say, the rest is history!

Here I am, a vinyasa-certified yoga teacher. More importantly, I now see how deeply impactful yoga has been in my personal life as a antidepressant, stress reliever, spiritual force and yes, a physical workout. It has taught me to let go of fear and self-doubt. I've learned to raise the volume on the voice that says "just stay" and turn down the volume on the one which says "you can't do this."

Yoga has been truly transformational for me physically and beyond. It has helped me manage anxiety, find faith in myself, and experience balance in life.  Since committing to a consistent yoga practice, I have been empowered to take chances I never would have dreamed of before. It has taught me to see my fears, acknowledge them, but never let them have control. Yoga has given me the confidence to believe in myself and settle for nothing less than my own worth.

I would be honored and humbled to share these practices with you, so that you too can find the strength to embrace your own power and worth.
